Our iLEAD Lancaster second-graders had a fantastic presentation of learning (POL). They shared all their learning about dinosaur extinction, endangered species and brought awareness to those who came to their POL.
Driving Question: How can we use our knowledge of the extinction of dinosaurs to predict the survival of animals in the future?
Our second-graders explored the three theories of dinosaur extinction, and after learning about what might have killed the dinosaurs, our learners researched what is endangering our animals today. This mini-project led to learning about deforestation, pollution, and global warming. Each learner then chose an endangered species to study. Their task was to create a non-fictional book about their chosen animal. They also created costumes and habitat depictions as a part of their P.O.L. The other part of their presentation included a commercial asking people to please protect our earth and save our animals.
Although this project has come to an end, it is not finished. On Friday afternoon our second graders went out to the playground with trash grabbers, gloves and trash bags to collect litter from our playground. We had a fantastic discussion about how they felt after picking up all the litter and their words/feelings included: amazing, awesome, good, and happy. We hope this project will help inspire others to take care of our planet and protect our animals.
