Hear Ye, Hear Ye — 7th grade goes back in time:
By command of the King of “Knowledgia” our class has traveled back a few centuries into Medieval Europe and began a historical simulation where the design of an entire kingdom takes center stage. This includes the feudal manor lands inside and outside the castle walls.
From the King and Queen to the lowest peasant or serf learners we will study what everyday life was like. A monarchy will evolve and the learners are in the process of developing written documents of historical importance to design the “Knowledgia Kingdom.”
Studying the church and religion at this time is vital to this era in history. We have studied architecture, numerous forms of art, laws as well as crimes and punishments or torture, guilds, family genealogy (crests, coats of arms) and the symbolism behind them, sports, music, food of the time, textiles, poetry and writing, just to name a few.
The study of the army and the process of becoming a knight will come alive during our simulation. Learners just recently received a “Life Card” that determined the daily changing of position or “lot in life” within the hierarchy as the feudal kingdom evolves.
Our POL, which will take place at the end of April, will be a live Medieval Banquet Feast (production/play) that will be performed twice — once for parents and then for the iLEAD staff and learners. This is an iLEAD middle school combination of Medieval Times & a Renaissance Faire.
