1st Graders Explore Biology
Our first graders are currently working on their second project of the year answering the question, Why is the human body so amazing and how can we keep it that way? Through hands-on exploration, they are learning about the different body systems and the importance of taking care of their bodies. Learners have been busy building body maps. Most importantly, learners are discovering that although children all over the world may seem very different, they share many things in common, such as food, clothing, water, shelter, and the need for love and care.

First Annual Kindergarten Job Faire Was a Hit
Kindergarten learners kicked off their “Me and My Community” project last week with a job fair. The job ‘recruiters’ were iLEAD parents and local volunteers who took time out of their workday to share what they do with our learners. American Medical Response (AMR) sent an ambulance, the local Fish and Wildlife volunteer visited with fly rods and information about endangered animals and water quality, local engineers brought model airplanes, and the children learned about jobs that help people, local artists, and careers in nursing.
Although the event was planned for kindergarteners, iLEAD’s older learners visited and expanded this event into a school-wide learning activity. This job fair is a “keeper” and will become an annual event.

Middle Schoolers Danced the Night Away
Friday night our fabulous iLEAD middle school ballroom dancers joined the other Dancing Feet participating middle schools in the Antelope Valley for a dancing good time. The Dancing Feet Social Dance was held at Hillview Middle School, and our dancers looked fantastic with their dress clothes and fancy steps. The learners showed pride and good etiquette as they mingled politely and danced with others from different schools. “May I have this dance?” and “Thank you for the dance” were only a few of the poised phrases heard around the dance floor. Not only was it fun, but it was a preview of coming attractions. Our dancers are looking forward to meeting their new friends again in our much anticipated ballroom competition on February 27. Good luck, dancers!
