Donation Opportunity for the Makery
Hello! We are the iLEAD Makers. In the Makery, we get to let our imaginations run wild. In the Makery, we can make things like a bird house, shadow box, cornhole games, and step stools. These are just some of the things we can do.
Our main priority in the Makery is safety. That starts at the home base of our Makery, where most of our cutting begins at the table saw, which brings us to why we’re asking for donations today. We want to make our home base, the table saw, safer. We have been learning about the table saw and realize that, if not careful, this machine could be a dangerous tool. Then we looked into how to make this safer.
Did you know that there is a table saw that will not put our fingers in danger? It’s called a SawStop. The SawStop blade carries a small electrical signal, which the safety system continually monitors. When skin contacts the blade, the signal changes because the body is conductive. The change to the signal activates the safety system. An aluminum brake springs into the spinning blade, stopping it in less than 5 milliseconds! The blade’s angular momentum drives it beneath the table, removing the risk of subsequent contract. So we’re asking you if you can donate to the iLEAD Makery.
The expected cost of the SawStop is $5,000. Donations can be made through the front office. Any amount helps!
Sincerely,
Sophia Hutson and the iLEAD Makery
