Donation Opportunity for the Makery
Hello! We are the iLEAD Makers. In the Makery, we get to let our imaginations run wild. We can build things like birdhouses, shadowboxes, cornhole games, step stools, and so much more!
Our main priority in the Makery is safety. That starts at the home base of our Makery, where most of our cutting begins at the table saw. We’re asking for donations to make our home base, the table saw, safer. Learners have been learning about the table saw and know that, if not used with care, this machine could be a dangerous tool. Then learners looked into how to make it safer.
Did you know there’s a table saw that will not put fingers in danger? It’s called a SawStop. The SawStop blade carries a small electrical signal, which the safety system continually monitors. When skin contacts the blade, the signal changes because the body is conductive. The change to the signal activates the safety system. An aluminum brake springs into the spinning blade, stopping it in less than five milliseconds! The blade’s angular momentum drives it beneath the table, removing the risk of subsequent contact.
The expected cost of the SawStop is $5,000. Can you help us fund our wish for the iLEAD Makery? Donations can be made through the front office. Any amount helps!
Sincerely,
Sophia Hutson and the iLEAD Makery
