Message from the Director

Dear iLEAD Families,

What a great start to the school year! Thank you for your continued support in getting your learner to school on time and read to learn. With your help, we are laying a wonderful foundation of collaboration and community.

Speaking of community, please help your learner join in the fun as this week is Spirit Week. You’ll find more information about Spirit Week as you scroll through the Monday Message.

As you know, part of our school’s culture is based on Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Habit 3 is “Put First Things First”. Putting first things first is important when planning classroom parties and school fundraisers. iLEAD Schools has a Student Wellness Policy in coordination with the Federal Nutrition Regulations.  To help meet these guidelines, we ask if you plan on bringing in a birthday treat, please choose an option that is low in sugar and fat, or consider a non-food option. Please contact the facilitator beforehand for approval and to check if there are any food allergies (i.e. dairy, nuts, gluten, etc.) as well as to coordinate logistics. Please drop off all birthday items in the front office.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Apple, carrot, banana, pumpkin, blueberry muffins in child serving sizes instead of cupcakes;
  2. Cut up fruit and veggies with dip;
  3. Whole grain crackers, pretzels, or vegetable chips;
  4. Cheese and raw nuts (if there are no allergies within the class);
  5. Non-food treats, such as pencils, erasers, notebooks, or bookmarks;
  6. You can donate a book or recess equipment in the child’s name to the Facilitator.

We also ask in order to support our nutrition education program to consider nutritional quality when selecting snacks, which may be donated for occasional class parties. You are encouraged to eliminate items such as Capri-Suns, Hi-C juice boxes, soda, Hot Cheetos, large bags of chips, and any form of cakes or candy from your learner’s lunch or snack provisions.

With your support we can ensure the health of our children.
