Monday Message for February 12, 2018

Message from the Director

Hello iLEAD Families,

I hope you have received your login information and have accessed your learners’ reports of progress. Did you know our learner-led conferences are coming up! This is a time where your learner will demonstrate the skills they have been learning in class. This process makes it a more meaningful and reflective experience for both the child and the parent. Please look for updates on when your scheduled LLC date will be.

I wanted to thank all of you for your continued support and dedication to your learners and our iLEAD family. We have been knee-deep in project development and creating new innovative projects for our learners to dive into. Some examples are: the Genes in Space project, the Maker Faire exposition and we are so excited to team up and explore with DreamUp, our space program. See the graphic below for more info!

As always we encourage and appreciate your support. Join us this Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. for our iSUPPORT meeting, in which we will discuss various upcoming events and our exciting benefit dinner coming up on April 28. We hope to see you there!

We have enjoyed your learners and look forward to having them return next year. Please fill the forms out and return them as soon as possible. Tell your friends: our 2018-19 enrollment is now available online and in the office.

Thank you!

Backpacks Full of Hope: You Can Help

Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico nearly eight months ago, and still today more than 50 percent of the U.S. territory is without electricity or drinking water. There is much more rebuilding, roofing in dire need of repair, farms that supply food for the island need to be restored, and water filtration systems need repair or replacement. A group of SCVi and iLEAD learners will be going to Puerto Rico over their spring break to help. You can help, too, by donating to the Go Fund Me page or purchasing supplies directly.

To donate cash please click here.

Kindergarten Post Office Open for Business!

The kindergarten post office is open and ready for business! After a visit to the old Lancaster Post Office and learning in class how it works, kindergarten learners are buying postage, mailing letters, processing the mail, and delivering the mail to personalized P.O. boxes.

What are they mailing? Their Valentines, of course! The young workers have to collaborate, work sequentially, count coins and stamps, and match all those P.O. Box numbers in order to correctly deliver those heartfelt messages.

This is part of Kindergarten’s Me and My Community project, which asks, “What is my role within the community?”

Parents Night out and Movie Night! Feb. 16, 6-8 p.m. “Despicable ME 3”! $5 includes the movie, popcorn, games, and water. Additional snacks available for an additional fee ranging from $1-$3.

Breaking News! Breakfast & Lunch Update…

Nutrition is important! iLEAD encourages healthy eating so learners feel their best with stamina and focus during their school day. With that in mind we are informing parents/guardians that breakfast and lunch will be served to those children who are hungry. We’ve discovered that many children do not bring snack, do not bring a healthy sustainable snack, eat their lunch (from home) for snack, or have simply lost their lunch and then are hungry at lunch and ask for a meal. There are also many learners who decide they want school lunch instead of what they brought. For all of these reasons our lunch team has been directed to serve the meal. Menus are posted on the information board by the front doors and are available to take home at your request. They will also be attached to the Monday Message.

Meals will be charged to learners’ accounts and billed to parents. Pre-payments are encouraged and will be applied to their accounts. We accept cash, check, and cards at the desk.

Full Price:

Breakfast $1.60

Lunch $2.75

Reduced:
Breakfast $.30
Lunch $.40

If you DO NOT want your child to receive a meal please inform the office staff immediately @ 661-722-4287 or email Brandy, our lunch coordinator, at brandy.leopard@ileadlancaster.org and we will note their accounts.
If you have done so previously then there is no need to do it again. This change will not apply to your learner(s). Please talk with your learner(s) about your decision as well.

Traffic is a BEAST! This is how we slay…

Hello parents! We encourage the use of VALET for all drop-off and pickup for safety reasons. K-4 is a busy commerce street and we value the safety of our learners! Remember, if you are not using valet, all children should be walked to the front door by their parent/guardian. Learners without a chaperone will warrant a call home.

  • No learners will be released without a valet card and proper ID.
  • Please always enter our lots via driving eastbound on K-4, DO NOT turn left into our driveways and always pull as far to the right (curb) as you can get when using the valet line. PLEASE PULL TO THE CURB WHEN WAITING FOR VALET TO BEGIN. STAGGERING PICKUP PREVENTS A BACKUP DOWN AVENUE K-4. Blocking traffic is illegal Please DO NOT park in our neighbors’ lots — your vehicle will be towed.
  • Be very mindful when choosing where to park when visiting our campus for any reason. If you need to drop off your learner and valet is over, please park and walk your learner in. Learners without a parent cannot be properly checked in late.
  • Please do not double park or pull up and let your learner out in front of the school, ever. It is very dangerous.
  • Please remember that our neighbors are very supportive of our site — despite the impact we have on their daily operations — and that all of our neighbors love iLEAD. Let’s show them the same support by parking in iLEAD parking lots ONLY as well as not blocking driveways and always yielding to our neighbors when using valet.

If you need clarification as to where to park please ask ANY iLEAD employee. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TURNING LEFT INTO THE VALET ENTRANCE AND OUT OF THE EXIT IS A HAZARD TO BOTH YOUR VEHICLE AND OUR LEARNERS. IT IS ALSO A TRAFFIC PATTERN DISRUPTION.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our learners and your vehicles safe!

Share Info on Difference Makers!

Do you have a learner who is shining in their community? Email mm.avregion@ileadschools.org with their school name and what they are doing to make a difference. We want to share with our school community the difference makers on our campus!

About Those Heelys…

We’ve seen an influx of Heelys on campus. Learners are zipping along the halls and on the play spaces. While we LOVE fun and seeing our learners enjoying themselves, we have to ask that they don’t use the wheels while at school. Please understand this is a safety concern for learners and staff. We want to prevent accidents and keep everyone safe. Heelys brand shoes can be worn, — just please remove the wheels for school.

General safety guidelines also include no skateboards or bicycles being ridden on campus; they must be carried and walked.

Thank you for your understanding and support!
