Wellness Committee Meeting

You are welcome to join the annual Wellness Committee meeting on Thursday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Please RSVP to mealservice@ileadlancaster.org

The Wellness Committee is composed of learners, staff, and parents for discussion about the following wellness topics:

  • School healthy food policy
  • Specific goals for nutrition education and promotion activities
  • Specific goals for physical activity opportunities
  • Specific goals for other school-based activities that promote learner wellness
  • Nutrition standards for all foods and beverages sold on the school campus during the school day that are consistent with Federal regulations for school meals and Smart Snacks in School
  • Standards for all foods and beverages provided, but not sold, to learners during the school day (e.g., in-classroom parties or classroom snacks brought by parents)

NOTE: By the start of the 2006-2007 school year, every school district participating in the Federal meal program was required to establish a local school wellness policy for all schools under its jurisdiction. In addition, beginning July 1, 2014, USDA’s Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards, required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, allowed schools to offer healthier snack foods to children, while limiting junk food.

Be on the lookout for a recap about the meeting in the April 24 edition of the Monday Message.
