Monday Message for November 12, 2017

Message from the Director

Hello iLEAD Families,

Thank you to all of our families and staff for helping make our McTeacher night a HUGE success. We raised funds for our field studies with your help! When we all work together so many amazing things can be accomplished. It was a fun night filled with lots of support. We appreciate you!

Fun fact: Did you know you can stop by the office and view our project board? Here you can view all of the driving questions our learners will be presenting on at their P.O.L.’s. If you have multiple learners, this board is a great asset!

I would like to personally invite you to our multicultural feast on Nov. 17. I am looking forward to experiencing this event for the first time with all of you If you see me, don’t be shy, say HI!

As a reminder I would like to say what a wonderful first quarter we have had. Thank you to all the parent volunteers for coming and supporting our learners and facilitators. Also, thank you for being proactive (Habit No. 1) and beginning with the end  in mind (Habit No. 2) to all of you for what you do at home with your learners to make sure they are here at school and ready for exciting and fun learning.

Thank you!

You’re Invited: Multicultural Feast Nov. 17

Greetings iLEAD Families!

It is an iLEAD tradition to give thanks to each other within our school community by sharing a multicultural feast the Friday before fall break. This year it be held on Friday, Nov. 17. We invite families to bring a dish to share that reflects their family tradition and culture. Choices are main dishes, side dishes, desserts, drinks, cups and plates. There is a poster for each category in the office. The process is that you take a Post-it for the dish you’re bringing and write your name/grade in its place. If you are not able to visit us in person but would like to send a contribution please call the office or send an email with your information and we’ll sign you up on the posters.

* In consideration of allergies, each dish must come with an index card listing all ingredients. We will post it next to the dish for all to read. Index cards are available in the office.

All items are to be brought to the Village Friday morning for setup. We will have all the tables up along with decorations, ready for our celebration! Each grade, starting with kinder, will come through the village beginning at 9 a.m. Parents are encouraged to stay, volunteer, and enjoy some foods from around the globe with their learners!

Please contact Brandy or Christy with any questions!

iLEAD Lancaster Participates in Toys for Tots

We will be collecting new toys for our community by partnering with Toys for Tots. If you can find it in your heart to support, please send in an unwrapped toy any time. We have met so many of you who, at a time when hardship may have struck your lives, have received these needed toys for your families. Now is the time to pay it forward. A great opportunity to do so would be our Winter Boutique event on Dec. 1. We thank you for supporting our community.

Traffic is a BEAST! This is how we slay…

Hello parents! We encourage the use of VALET for all drop-off and pickup for safety reasons. K-4 is a busy commerce street and we value the safety of our learners! Remember, if you are not using valet, all children should be walked to the front door by their parent/guardian. Learners without a chaperone will warrant a call home.

  • No learners will be released without a valet card and proper ID.
  • Please always enter our lots via driving eastbound on K-4, DO NOT turn left into our driveways and always pull as far to the right (curb) as you can get when using the valet line. PLEASE PULL TO THE CURB WHEN WAITING FOR VALET TO BEGIN. STAGGERING PICKUP PREVENTS A BACKUP DOWN AVENUE K-4. Blocking traffic is illegal Please DO NOT park in our neighbors’ lots — your vehicle will be towed.
  • Be very mindful when choosing where to park when visiting our campus for any reason. If you need to drop off your learner and valet is over, please park and walk your learner in. Learners without a parent cannot be properly checked in late.
  • Please do not double park or pull up and let your learner out in front of the school, ever. It is very dangerous.
  • Please remember that our neighbors are very supportive of our site — despite the impact we have on their daily operations — and that all of our neighbors love iLEAD. Let’s show them the same support by parking in iLEAD parking lots ONLY as well as not blocking driveways and always yielding to our neighbors when using valet.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our learners and your vehicles safe!

Sam Mendez Enters Space Foundation International Art Contest

Sam Mendez, a 10th grader in Innovation Studios, entered her artwork in the 8th Annual Space Foundation International Student Art Contest. Each year, the Space Foundation International Student Art Contest invites students ages 3-18 from around the world to submit original artwork based on a space-oriented theme. We wish her the best of luck!

Do you have a learner who is shining in their community? Email with their school name and what they are doing to make a difference. We want to share with our school community the difference makers on our campus!

Leader in Me Spotlight: David Williams

3 words that describe iLEAD: family, trailblazers, people builders

My why: My “why” is my family. My family will always be the most important aspect of my life. It drives me. It gives me motivation. It’s the reason I set goals. It helps me become a better person, coach, facilitator and leader. By keeping this focus , I ensure that I will continue to grow in all aspects of my life and who I am. It helps me utilize the skills I develop in every aspect of my life, including work. I am nothing more than an amalgamation of pieces and influences that I have picked up from individuals who have inspired me throughout my life. By keeping an open mind and being willing to learn new things, I continue to grow and develop new talents and skills.

How long have I been here: This is the third year I have been @ iLEAD.

One word that describes me: I really can’t give myself a word to describe myself. Myself, myself, myself. Anyway. I asked a few of my fellow iLEADers and here is what I was told:

  • Soothing
  • Selfless
  • Calm and collected
  • Driven

About Those Heelys…

We’ve seen an influx of Heelys on campus. Learners are zipping along the halls and on the play spaces. While we LOVE fun and seeing our learners enjoying themselves, we have to ask that they don’t use the wheels while at school. Please understand this is a safety concern for learners and staff. We want to prevent accidents and keep everyone safe. Heelys brand shoes can be worn, — just please remove the wheels for school.

General safety guidelines also include no skateboards or bicycles being ridden on campus; they must be carried and walked.

Thank you for your understanding and support!
